“It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place”

March 9th, 2009

Growing up, there was a grandfatherly fellow in our town that adopted all of us as kids as his own.  He would watch us, comment on how we’ve grown, ask us about our family, and often, share a bit of his wisdom.

He had a saying and a story for everything.  I mean everything.

If your hand itched he would say that meant money was coming your way. If you found a penny face up on the sidewalk, it was good luck.  If he saw a certain bird in the area, he told us that meant spring was on its way.

I always remember those sayings as I come across similar things in my life now and the events that promoted him to say it in the first place.

One time, there was a huge pothole in the street in the middle to town.  The road crew would come out and throw some dirt in it and a little asphalt and they would be gone.  After a few months, the hole was back and it was usually much bigger.

They would come back out with their trucks and shovels, throw some more dirt in the hole and lay a little more asphalt.  And once again, they were gone.

My wise mentor would watch each time the crew was out.  He would walk over to them as they worked and strike up a conversation about that pothole and offer his advice on the situation.

The road crew was there so often, they got to know my friend well.  And they would cringe as he walked up because they knew he was about to share his opinion with them if they wanted it or not.

He would ask them why they were there, even though it was obvious, and they would answer.  He would remind them it had only been a few months since they were there doing the same exact thing.  The supervisor would shrug and agree as the old gentlemen continued on.

“Now, don’t you think if you fixed it right, you could save yourself a lot of time and grief”, he said.

“Yeah, but the city wants us to save money so we can only do a patch”, the supervisor replied.

“Well seems to me, you have been here 4 times this year alone.  And you know you will have to be back here in a couple months again.  How can having 3 men waste their time doing the same thing over and over, be saving the city, and the taxpayers for that matter, any money?  Seems to be, It’s Always Easier and Cheaper in the Long Run to Just Do It Right In the First Place.”

I think about his words often.  As a dentist, when I see a patient suffering with a dental problem unnecessarily, it reminds me of the pothole.

Patients rely on me to give them my best treatment. They rely on me to fix it right the first time. And they want me to save them time, energy, as well as money in the long run.  That is my role as their dentist.

For patients who are missing teeth, that is why I recommend dental implants.  Not only do they replace the teeth, but they also stabilize the bite, provide a strong anchor of support for chewing, as well as give the patient back confidence and comfort that they won’t get with any other option.    Dental implants restore so much to a person’s quality of life; it is difficult to even put a figure on it.

Dental implants are the best option for tooth replacement.  It is a wonderful service that we enjoy providing for our VIPs (Very Important Patients!).  And just like my ‘adopted grandfather’, we always have room at our dental home for one more special person if you would like to join us here : http://implantdentistryofdenver.com

Implant Dentistry - Can I Afford It?

February 25th, 2009

If you need to have a tooth pulled or a few teeth pulled, you are probably interested in replacing it or them with some kind of artificial dental apparatus. If you are one of these people, then you should be looking into dental implants. There is just one question that people who are interested in implant dentistry always seem to ask - can I afford it? The short answer the question “Can I afford it?” is “Yes” - implant dentistry is a treatment that just about any one and every one can afford these days. Why? Well, because most dental implant surgeons and dental implant specialists are willing to finance their work with you, so that you can pay over time, like you would a car or home.

Often times dental implant surgeons and specialists will also give you a few different options regarding your dental implants, with each option being in a different price range. Your dental implant specialist will be able to tell you which of the implant options is the best one for your current situation and also which one will best fit your budget. Hopefully the two suggestions are the same; if not, you could always try negotiating with your dental implant specialist. Remember, dental implant prices are not set in stone — do not be afraid to haggle regarding the price a bit.

Dental Implants -  Are They Safe

February 21st, 2009

Many people want to know about dental implants today and wonder many questions - such as, are they safe? Yes, dental implants are very safe — as long as you follow all of your dental implant specialist’s instructions after you have had the surgery. You want to make sure to properly clean and disinfect around your dental implants daily, following the routine that your dental implant specialist should have laid out for you. You also want to make sure to not put any undue pressure on your dental implants until they have fully healed — basically, do not put any pressure on your implants until your specialist tells you to. If you do not follow all of your dental implant specialist’s instructions, you may end up getting some very severe infections that may result in you losing the dental implant and even getting blood poisoning Thus, if you are thinking about dental implants and wondering if they are safe - remember that they are as long as you follow all of the guidelines set out for you by the professional treating you.

Dental implants are a great tooth replacement option fore those people who are missing teeth. Dental implants are tiny titanium screws that are inserted in your jaw where your tooth or teeth used to be. Once your jaw has healed, a dental crown is attached to the top of the screw; thus the dental crown is rooted in your jaw like a regular tooth is rooted there.

Discount Dental Implants in Denver County, CO

February 17th, 2009

Though it is possible to find discount dental implants in Denver County, CO, it is not advised. This is because the discount dental implants in Denver County, CO, or in any area in that matter, will really end up costing you a lot more in the long run. This is because discount dental implants are made out of cheaper materials and will break much easier, which will require more dental work, and more money. Furthermore, many patients do not heal as well or as fast with implants made out of lesser materials, which can eventually lead to your implants failing, requiring you to spend even more money to remedy the situation. That is why most experts recommend that you pay the extra money on quality implants the first time and save yourself a lot of time, money, and pain in the future.

Remember that the self confidence and health benefits that you will gain from having quality dental implants are priceless. Furthermore, many dentists are willing to finance their work, which will allow you to get the treatments even if you can not pay the full price up front. This is an excellent option for those patients who do not have a lot of money saved up or who can not spend a lot of money in one lump sum. Don’t skimp on your personal health and well being.

Are Dental Implants Always Successful?

February 9th, 2009

Dental implants have changed the face of cosmetic dentistry. Missing and damaged teeth are no longer an issue as you can replace them with dental implants. Dental implants are artificially inserted titanium rods onto which artificial teeth made of ceramic or porcelain are fixed. With dental implants one can be assured of absolutely natural looking teeth which feel and function also exactly like real teeth.

However patients often ask whether dental implants are always successful? The success rate of dental implants is quite high. However the answer to the question whether dental implants are always successful is in the negative. Dental implants are not always successful because eventually implants are an artificial insertion and not a natural part of the body.

If your dental implants are successful, you will be able to use your new teeth just like they were real. However, since dental implants are not always successful you need to know how to identify the signs so that you’re prepared.

Reasons why dental implants are not successful could be infection during surgery, decreased bone density which loosens the implant, etc.

When your dental implants are not successful, you will experience a distinct discomfort in eating and chewing as the implant might have gotten loose within the bone. This can cause a lot of pain also. With unsuccessful dental implants there is also a sensation of heat around the implant which does not go. This generally indicates infection.

Get Rid of Wisdom Tooth Pain

January 29th, 2009

In most cases when there is extreme pain associated with a wisdom tooth, the dentist will recommend extraction. However there are times when extraction is not suggested and then you have to get rid of wisdom tooth pain on your own.

In order to get rid of wisdom tooth pain there are some simple things that you can do at home without having to visit a dentist.

One of the simple, yet effective ways to get rid of wisdom tooth pain is to suck in air, similar to a dentist blowing in air before a surgery. The air will dry out the tooth so that the nerves are less sensitive.

Another way to get rid of wisdom tooth pain is to use cold water or hot water, whichever works for you. Remember not to use icy cold or boiling hot water. The water should be swirled around in the mouth for a few seconds and spat out. The cold water can help to get rid of wisdom tooth pain, and in case your teeth are cold sensitive, hot water will do the same as well as take care of any pus.

A similar way to get rid of wisdom tooth pain is to gargle with hot water and salt. The salt acts as a disinfectant and reduces swelling.

Brushing your teeth to remove any particles of food stuck in the crevices also helps get rid of wisdom tooth pain.
Finally, all of the above will help get rid of wisdom tooth pain if they are accompanied by over the counter painkillers like ibuprofen etc.
